DO YOU BELIEVE THAT CHILDREN BELONG IN FAMILIES?
DO YOU BELIEVE THAT CHILDREN BELONG IN FAMILIES?
SO DO WE!
PROBLEM
More than 5.6 million children in Ethiopia are missing one or both parents. In 2018, inter-country adoption was banned, but there is not yet a strong culture of domestic foster care or adoption.
CYCLE
Vulnerable children often end up trapped in institutional care. Those aging out of orphanages are at high risk for unplanned pregnancy. The resulting child often is abandoned in an orphanage, continuing the cycle.
SOLUTION
We believe each orphan or vulnerable child should be placed in a FAMILY through one of these ways: reunification, kinship placement, foster care, domestic adoption and/or small group homes.

HOW IT
ALL STARTED
Hope for the Fatherless was founded in 2016 by Belay Gebru ("Uncle Ben"). His own story is one of tremendous tragedy and redemption, both shaping much of his ministry to the orphans of Ethiopia. Prior to starting HFTF, he served as a child advocate for sponsorship with Compassion International and tour staff for the "His Little Feet" children's choir. Uncle Ben is the heart of the organization and is gifted in inspiring those around him to champion the cause for the most vulnerable. Belay is married to Koki, and they have two beautiful children.
